MINE MACHINERY-I INTRODUCTION

Mining Machinery Engineering is an interdisciplinary branch of engineering that applies the principles of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and mining engineering for the analysis, design, manufacture and maintenance of mining equipment. It includes the study of various aspects of the equipment used in earth moving, mineral processing, handling of bulk materials, drilling and construction.

Surface mining equipment evolved at great speed in the 20th century as the scale of mining increased. The drilling and blasting replaced the manual cutting of minerals. Lately, the use of continuous mining machines has become the order of the day to comply with environmental regulations, protect the characteristics of the surface and also to achieve a higher rate of production. As concerns about mine safety increased and very strict regulations were implemented, mining machinery engineers were required to be very familiar with these regulations.

Since mining machinery engineering is an integral branch, whose course covers disciplines such as mechanical engineering, mining engineering, mineral engineering, electrical engineering, employment opportunities are huge. Mining Machinery Engineering offers excellent career opportunities in various industries, such as mining, heavy earth moving equipment, construction industry, mineral processing and other related industries. It is recognized by the Ministry of Labor, Government of India as equivalent to mechanical and electrical engineering to work in mines.
